“Abrakadabra” is a production about feelings we have felt but cannot describe, because there are no words (yet) for these feelings
The production is based on John Koenig’s The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. A poetic collection of words and definitions, it attempts to capture feelings we have all experienced but have not yet been able to put into words. It could be described as a dictionary of invented terms — yet all words in any language were once simply made up.
“Abrakadabra” is an attempt to grasp what is happening within us and around us, and to give it meaning. It is the immense effort of a small human being simply to exist, and to take pleasure in that existence.
But what if not everything is meant to be defined? What if a person stops loving because that love does not fit the definition? What then?
By the way, in Hebrew, ebrah k’dabri means creating the world through words.
I read the dictionary.
I thought it was a poem
about everything. — Steven Wright
